The Strip: Whisky a Go-Go

I was the main Environment Artist for the interior of the Whisky a Go Go for Project Rock Star, part of the Runway Game Incubator. I worked on mostly everything related to the environment within the interior; modular walls, floors, ceilings, set dressing, textures, lighting, and post-processing inside Unreal Engine 5, Maya, and Substance Painter.

I gathered a lot of references from the real location to get the layout and atmosphere right. The layout changed quite a bit from the original blockout. I went through several iterations of the layout to make it fit as accurately as I could within the limitations we had.

I created a majority of the props and textured with a few assets being grabbed from online that already had textures, and from Joshua Laporte, a 3D artist. I also created all the materials within Unreal for the meshes in the scene.

Lighting and post-processing were a big focus for me. I wanted to hit that moody, colorful concert look; bright stage lights, haze, and the kind of energy you’d expect from a live show. It took much tweaking, but I’m happy with how it came together, and the feedback from the client was solid.
